Talk to Hustla with Siri

What works where

Siri by voice is an iPhone and iPad thing for now. Everything else on this page works on all three. The Apple Intelligence extras need iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 or later, a device that supports Apple Intelligence, and the feature turned on.

Wording that goes to other apps

Siri gives some sentence shapes to Apple’s own apps before Hustla gets a look. Avoid these:

Add

Add a to-do

Creates a to-do on Today, or on the list you name. Siri asks “What’s the to-do?” if you didn’t say it.

Say the date in the same breath. When Siri asks “What’s the to-do?”, answer “dentist Friday 3 PM” and Hustla reads the date out of it: the to-do is named “Dentist”, the reminder is Friday at 3:00 PM, and it goes to the list that matches the day. Siri confirms: “Added ‘Dentist’ to Next with a reminder Friday at 3:00 PM.” Every assumption is spoken: “No time given, so 9 AM.” A time that has already passed is dropped and Siri says so. This is Smart Quick-Add; it works with plain dates on every device, and understands looser phrasing on devices with Apple Intelligence on (iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 or later). Turn it off in Settings ▸ To-Dos ▸ Smart Quick-Add if you’d rather type dates yourself.

Free plan: the 15 to-do limit applies. Past it, Siri says so instead of adding.

Set a reminder

Puts a reminder on an existing to-do. Siri asks for the day and time if you didn’t give one. The to-do moves to the list that matches the day, the same rule as in the app.

Check

What’s on a list

Reads the open to-dos on a list, up to five by name, then “and N more”. Completed to-dos are counted, not read.

Update

Complete a to-do

Marks it done. Already-done to-dos are left alone and Siri tells you.

Change a to-do’s status

Sets a to-do to open, in progress, or complete. Siri asks which to-do.

Note: if the app is set to two status steps (Settings ▸ To-Dos ▸ Status Steps), “in progress” is refused and Siri explains why.

Move a to-do

Moves it to another list, at the top of that list.

Add to a to-do’s notes

Appends what you say to the to-do’s notes. Siri asks “What’s the note?”

Delete a to-do

Siri asks you to confirm before deleting. This is the only action that confirms first.

Find

Open a to-do

Opens Hustla straight to that to-do.

Saying a to-do’s name

You don’t need the full title. Siri knows each to-do by its title and by any run of two to four words from it, so “artificial intelligence” finds “Complete the artificial intelligence implementation”.

When Hustla searches your to-dos, for example when you pick one in a Shortcuts action, it tries the exact title first, then the start of it, then any part of it, then all the words in any order. If that fails it drops filler words (“the”, “my”, “a”) and forgives a typo or two in longer words. With Apple Intelligence on, it also asks the on-device model. If several to-dos match, the model chooses among them. If none match, it chooses from your first 8 open to-dos: Today first, then Next, then Someday. It only ever chooses from to-dos you already have, and nothing leaves the device. If it isn’t sure, you get the normal list to choose from.

When two to-dos match, Siri shows both with their list and status and asks which. When nothing matches, Siri says “I couldn’t find that to-do in Hustla. Try saying part of its name.”

Talking to Siri naturally iOS 27

On iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 with Apple Intelligence on, Siri also understands free-form requests about reminders and routes them to Hustla. Needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later, or an iPad with A17 Pro or an M-series chip. Not on Mac yet.

A date without a time means 9 AM, and Siri says so. “Remind me about” an existing to-do updates that to-do rather than creating a copy. If two open to-dos share that title, Siri doesn’t guess: nothing changes, and it asks you to say the list or rename one. Hustla’s reminders are one-time and by time only. If you ask for a repeat, a location, a flag, tags, images, or links, Siri doesn’t save anything and tells you which part Hustla doesn’t support, so you can ask again without it.

Known issue in the iOS 27 beta: “Move X to my Someday list” said free-form may not carry the list. The regular phrase, “Move X to Someday in Hustla”, works.

In the Shortcuts app

Every action above is also a Shortcuts action, so you can build your own automations: Add To-Do, Get To-Dos, Complete To-Do, Set To-Do Status, Move To-Do, Delete To-Do, Set To-Do Reminder, Add Notes to To-Do, Get In-Progress To-Dos, Open To-Do, plus Find To-Dos with filters by list, status, or title. Your to-dos also appear in Spotlight search.

If something doesn’t work

• Siri doesn’t know any Hustla phrase. Restart the device once after installing. Then make sure you said yes to registering Hustla’s shortcuts the first time.
• Siri made a note or a reminder instead. You used one of the shapes in the table at the top. Say “to-do”, end with “in Hustla”, and use “update the notes on” for notes.
• “I couldn’t find that to-do.” Say two to four words straight from its title. Check the to-do isn’t completed and archived; archived to-dos aren’t reachable by voice.
• Siri asks “Hustla or Notes?” You said “task”. Say “to-do” next time; both work.
• The reminder didn’t fire. Notifications are off for Hustla. Siri mentions this when it sets the reminder. Turn them on in Settings.
